The exchange project CAPES / FIPSE:
The project of cooperation between Brazil and the United States (USA) aims to promote student exchanges and curriculum development as well as language skills and cultural differences between speech therapists students from Brazil and the USA. It has the financial and institutional support from the Ministry of Education through CAPES agency in Brazil and the Department of Education (U.S. Department of Educations) program through the FIPSE (Fund for Improvement of Postsecondary Education) in the U.S.
This consortium program will target the difficulties of cross-linguistic communication in children, resulting from various etiologies, including cleft lip and palate, children with speech disorders, hearing loss and autism spectrum disorders. The participating institutions are: University of Santa Maria (UFSM), University of São Paulo (USP) - Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies, East Tennessee State University (ETSU), and University of Northern Iowa (UNI).
The relevant divisions of each academic year institution are: ETSU and UNI denotes the spring and fall semesters and 10-week session in summer. For USP and UFSM terms will be assined for one semester and second semester. And the full-time enrollment is 12 credit hours in spring and fall semesters for the post-graduate students and 9 credit hours in summer and winter semesters for undergraduate students. In summer the full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours. The maximum enrollment is 15 credit hours for post-graduate students and 9 credit hours for undergraduate students.
